On September 27, 2010 Xmarks Co-founder Todd Agulnick announced that they would be shutting down their website.
In the blog post titled “End of the Road for Xmarks“,¬† Agulnick detailed an interesting company retrospective that began four years ago in 2006.
Xmarks provides a wonderful free service , but it did not succeed in acquiring a solid financial foundation that could sustain the company. Agulnick wrote in his post “The past four years have been a wild ride for us: growing something from nothing to substantial scale, providing a simple service that people love because it simplifies their lives. We’ve learned tons along the way, often by making big mistakes. We’re really sorry that this last lesson means that you’ll have to find an alternative to Xmarks, but the alternatives exist and you’ll have no problem finding them”.
